AmpGuard™ IFU
FOR USE ON BELOW KNEE AMPUTEES (BKA) ONLY
IMPORTANT: The AmpGuard™ is designed to enhance the structure of the knee immobilizer so it is critical to ensure all knee immobilizer stays are securely in the AmpGuard™ groove. The AmpGuard™ should not touch the dressed distal end of the amputation. Two or more inches should remain between the top of AmpGuard™ and the distal end of the residual limb. Use a longer knee immobilizer if necessary
ASSEMBLY:
-
AmpGuard™ arrives in two pieces nested together.
-
Separate the two pieces. Identify the domed bottom and AmpGuard™ labeled top piece.
-
Locate the clips on the domed bottom piece and the slots on the AmpGuard™ labeled top piece.
-
Orientation makes no difference - simply line up the clips and slots and push together firmly until an audible click is heard. This results in a groove designed to hold the knee immobilizer stays.
APPLICATION:
-
Position the AmpGuard™ with the “BACK” marking centered in back of the knee immobilizer and AmpGuard™ logo centered in the front (Figure 1).
-
Insert the top portion of AmpGuard™ into the knee immobilizer, leaving the bottom or distal end Velcro strap unattached until step 4.
-
Put the knee immobilizer stays or struts in the AmpGuard™ groove. It may be helpful to hold the knee immobilizer vertically, with the bottom up, to ensure the stays are securely in the groove.
-
Now, secure the AmpGuard™ with the bottom knee immobilizer Velcro® strap. With the bottom on a hard surface, apply arm weight and twist slightly to make sure the stays are securely in the AmpGuard™ groove.
-
Loosen the remaining Velcro® straps, insert the residual limb, and tighten the straps as you normally would.
NOTE:
-
The stays or struts may bend inward or outward depending on the girth of the calf - this has no impact on the integrity of the AmpGuard™.
-
Do NOT separate the AmpGuard™ parts once it has been assembled
